Whitanga Fishing report

February continues to produce the best Marlin fishing ever seen here !!

Last week the club held its "Classic "tournament- Limit 40 boats and one those 3 days along with 10 or so non competition boats the fleet averaged around 10 marlin a day, usually 8 or so Stripies and 1-2 blues. The IMMIGRANT lost a big blue est 300 kg, after many hours when the leader broke at the hook along side the boat.Winning fish was a blue of approx 240 kilos in the end. Lumo lures were the top performers a few weeks ago, now all sorts are doing the job, esp black and purple.

Mahi mahi are here now in better numbers than usual , as we have temps up to high 23's most days out wide !!! Run close past anything floating out beyond  the.200m line.

Yellowfin are still almost non- existant , given the number of boats plying the waters.

Snapper continues to improve, and hugely better than last Feb.

Kingfish everywhere, but getting them to bit can be frustrating- Try ALL methods each day- you never know what they will want.

It doesnt get any better for billfishing here - we had a double shot on Monday, tagging one and falling off the other, so come on down, but remember its busy during the ONE Base tournament  here till Saturday.

Good Fishing!!!
