Fishing Reports

weather good, fishing great

Although we cant boast good tuna and marlin like is happening up north, there is potential for broadbill and some of the colder water tuna species. Places like the Cook strait and Paihou canyons are likely looking spots where the water drops off to over 1000mtrs.

boat - Snapper have been very good up to last thursday when a 30knot southerly came through. up to then we were getting good numbers and some nice size ones too. Peter Van Nistleroys mate caught a 10.75kg snap in pukerua bay and a few others from 6 to 8 kg were caught too. The best kingi has been caught at kapiti at 65lb. hunters has produced kings to 45lb from what i have heard. Puka fishing has been great, plenty of fish at most of the spots out wide with the best at 32kg caught at karori recently by kevin purser. The harbour has been producing good snapper out from eastbourne to ward island and a few in evans bay as well. There have been plenty of sharks around with thresher, mako, blue and bronze whalers all featuring of late. We had a good trip down the sounds last weekend with plenty of puka, bluecod, tarakihi and scallops caught.

shore - An 8.5kg snap was caught surfcasting near great point not too long ago. Gurnard fishing has been reasonable off miramar wharf and the seatoun area has been producing elephant fish for shore fishers. Most angler in the know have been catching blue moki on the south coast and a few in the harbour. Spotty sharks have been a bit quiter over the wairarapa but good on the west coast.

We look forward to the castlepoint superfish comp this weekend and with a good forcast there should be some interesting catches.

We have share cost charters available this weekend on saturday night, sunday abo and monday evening. check www.petelambfihsing.co.nz for details. its temping to make a run up to taranaki on our launch Melicent for a marlin fish soon.

I have spots available for a 3 kings trip in late may on pursuit and also down the marlborough sounds on Melicent in march if any ones interested.
