Fishing Reports

Wellington diving is great

There has been some great diving on Wellington's South Coast over the past month, with the majority of the wind being northerlies. The water temperature has varied between 12 and 16 degrees.

The f69 frigate has been a very popular dive with estimates that well over 1000 divers have dived it since it's sinking in November. There are plenty of fish starting to make it their home already. The bridge is full of small tripple fins and there are plenty of red cod in the sand along the bottom. If you would like more info on the wreck, log onto www.splashgordon.co.nz there have been crays caught in close (3 meters of water ) over the past couple of months on the South Coast and reports that out wider in 30 meters, there are plenty.

The crays will only get better over February. A few lucky divers have had visits from dolphins while on their safety stops and several have been investigated by orca while on their dive. Their have also been reports of schools of warahou about and spear fisherman have been landing good kingfish at Kapiti and Hunters Bank. There has been some good sized fish taken about Breaker Bay and the harbour entrance. Like anything if you want a result you have to put some time in.

Good luck.
