Fishing ReportsEarly Summer Fishing around WhitiangaNovember and December so far have seen a continuation of largely settled weather, with many fishable days, but snapper fishing has continued to be reasonably hard, especially during the middle of the day. You really needed to be overnighting it to get the most out of it. Dawn and dusk have really been it, with the fish shutting down during the day , I suspect to spawn, as they have well developed roe now. Offshore pins and reefs have continued to fish well for deep kingis and hapuka, much later than usual, and although our last 2 trips have seen plentiful amounts of both, the size is dropping. The first Yellowfin for The Mercury Bay Gamefish Club was caught here last week, a fish of 34.4 kgs, proving that as some of us have felt , that the tuna have been out there for a few weeks. Green and yellow is always a hot colour for the start of the season. Good crayfishing, with the big males in shallow (around 2-8 metres) as they get ready to spawn. Terakihi have fished ok and have still been a major support act during the daylight hours, when snappe won't co-operate. Best Wishes for Christmas, and keep your fishing safe.
