Most of these reports are catches on Melicent (our charter vessel) unless otherwise specified - Pete Lamb

17.4.05. 13 puka to 44lb, 7 tope to 40lb, 40 tarakihi on saturday out wide from Mana, 5 puka to 55lb, 30 teris on sunday, same spots. Some good catches of snapper have been reported in harbour, not as many on west coast at the moment. The mana cruising club had a comp on saturday. heaps of boats out with good weather. puka to 35lb, not sure about other catches yet. 


11.4.05. 5 puka out from Mana to 40lb, 12 teris at bears head today, 30 teris south makara and 5 snaps (to 6lb) yesterday, last friday we hooked 9 kingis from 35lb to around 80lb. landed 3, heaviest 45lb. The school of xos fish were cavorting across the surface chasing kahawai and mackerel. we hooked 4 on live kahawai (4 - 6lb baits) 4 on live jack macks and one on a freshly caught squid. 

Superfish comp at castlepoint (last w/end) .... Unfortunately only one fishing day due to weather and that was not great. However every boat weighed fish, mainly albacore. Best was 11.75 kgs. Also skippies to 5kg and kahawai to 2.4 kg. Two blues were tagged estimated at 50kgs and 70 kgs. Several kingfish under the new minimum size were also caught. Only three landbased entries. They caught a heap of small kahawai, a tope and a bag of gurnard to 1.5 kgs.

6.4.05. We caught 6 snaps yesterday on the bridge and 4 trevs, heaps of teris at wairaka rise and the sth end of mana in 50mtrs. The Puka are a bit slow down makara but firing at  back of Hunters Bank. Caught 11 today and 3 snaps and a 15lb puka in 40mtrs on the wairaka rise.
2.4.05 11 puka today, 13 puka yesterday, a couple of snaps, trevs and teris as well as 3 x 2kg blue macks. The blue moki running well on sth coast for surfcasters.

29.3.05 Some great catches have been made by WSAC shore fishos recently. 2 x 10kg kingfish caught at Makara by Matt Dobson 5.2.05, a 17kg kingi caught on 10kg line by Felix Wenzil off Oriental bay 2.3.05, Eddie Szalkowski with a 16kg kingi and Bernard Shiftnber with a 13kg kingi both caught in the harbour on 12.3.05.  4 good snapper from 6.5 to 8.5kg caught at the spit in Palliser bay by Jim Livingston, Jason Mcmahon, Glen Newman and Garth Ship. Its good to see such good fish caught landbased in Wgtn. It's normally the boaties who have that kind of catch. The moki have been very good too at the spit. Graham Lusty caught a 6.8kg snap and 4.5kg moki in Palliser recently. If thats not enough to get you out for a fish, then I don't know what is. Also WSAC won the top club at the recent nzaca nationals. Jo Cook won best lady and top angler at the comp. well done!

Easter frid and sat we cancelled due to the wether. Sunday we got 6 puka during the day then 2 snaps, a 12lb kingi, a trev, some teris and blueys in the evening. Monday we got 14 puka at Makara during the day and 13 snaps at the wairaka rise in the evening. 

24.3.05.  36 puka yesterday (our best for the season) and 14 snapper and a 7lb cray (on the line). 20 teris, 25 snapper the day before to 12lb. A 26kg kingfish was caught landbased at pukerua bay by Aaron Ten, well done. Fishermans is firing puka again. Warehou have been caught off miramar wharf, some big ones too...
The coast round from red rocks is producing some good moki for surfcasters.
