Snapper puka or kingfish?

The weather has been a bit more patchy of late but the fishing is hot. We had one of our better days last friday. In the morning we caught a dozen tarakihi and a 6lb trev on the sth end of Mana then went out for puka fish at Makara. By mid afternoon we had 25 puka in the hold to 35lb. In the evening at Pukerua bay we bagged 47 snapper to 18lb with many fish over 10lb. To finish the day the organizer landed a 25lb kingfish. We had two separate groups of 10 anglers out on that day.

On Saturday we went back to the similar spots landing 8 puka but the snapper had moved on. Earlier in the week the snapper were firing  on the sth end of the Mana bridge and on the nth end of Mana. Wayne Innes landed a 17lb snapper there. A spearo bagged a 35kg kingi at Makara recently and some good kings have been taken off the shore as well as in the boat on the west coast.

The trench is still firing good bluenose and the surfcasters are doing well on spotty sharks and gurnard on the south coast and through the wairarapa. The blue moki were firing well in jan but have backed off a bit during feb. Some big albacore have been caught out wide from kapiti and seen by divers at fishermans. Boat fishing at Waikanae has been good for snapper and gurnard. Havn't heard about the Ngawi fishing comp on the w/end but I will let you know when I hear. The Plimmerton fishing comp is this w/end which is normally a good one.

If you would like to come out for a fish on melicent with us we have evning snapper/kingi trips at $80pp on wednesdays and saturdays, day trips at $125pp on tues/wed, and a sounds trip at easter at $250pp (plus food, tackle and accomo).
