Fishing report 24.12.04
We have been getting heaps of bluenose at the trench, better than I have ever seen it. Most trips have yielded 20 - 30 plus a few puka, gemfish, hoki and big blue cod.
We also hooked a 200lb mako recently which jumped 3 or 4 times taking 100mtr bursts of 80lb braid before biting through the puka trace. Turakerei has been good for blue cod and XOS tarakihi. We had a nice stash of cod and teris and Owhiro bay this week as well and a small snapper. I hear the Wairaka rise is producing snapper (50mtr) as well as the plim/puke big bay (20 mtrs on the sand). Just heard of a 22lb snapper caught off the plimmerton boat club wharf. The surfcasting has been a bit quiet but it is prime time for a snapper off Cobham drive and the spotty sharks and gurnard a re going well at places like white rock and in palliser bay
