Fishing ReportsBeach Marine PorangahauLast week saw some good runs of whitebait, they started on the Sunday of Labour weekend, surfcasters at the river mouth were catching kahawai on their spinners and finding the kahawai gut was full of fresh whitebait, the surfcasters had twice the success rate. They ran all week with some reports of 60+lbs caught in a day. Last weekend saw a group from Fielding arrive with there Electric Kontiki (Udys type) had a few sets in morning with a good feed of gurnard and skate but the southerly arrived in the afternoon and put paid to that, so they turned too catching whitebait. Reports from the boating side that the tarakihi were back with a couple of vessels catching there limits. The best rigs were found to be Silstar Jig-em again. Only one baby groper reported landed. Crayfish have still not come on, but noted from the cray boats that it appears that the females are getting smaller with berries? anyone wish to comment on this? The water temp. is still around the 12deg mark. Cheers John From
