Thing are starting to warm up on the fishing seen, water temp. still only around 12 to 13C.
Last week started off with some good reports of gurnard caught off the boats up and down the coast and on Beach longlines. Boat catches were all caught with the New Jig-em rigs from Silstar using the squid type lures, one report from Blackhead was every time the line came up with three gurnard, or if they were on the Tarakihi bed up came three tarakihis. From verious reports coming back in these rigs are working very well.
On the beach seen around the new moon on the 14th fished well one report was 16 gurnard on a kite longline but as the weekend came around the fish droped off. We had a visit from Gary Kimsley and wife Sue who fished all day on Saturday with not much to show for.
Whitebait has droped off, with only one good run with 30 and 40lb catches and possible two others small ones, other wise been a very poor season on the whitebait front.
Crayfish season has been slow too, females have not come on yet.
We on the East Coast of the North Island are hoping for some fine settle, westerly pattern winds to warm up the sea.
Cheers
