Chalmers Recreational Sport Fishing Club Xmas Comp

Happy new year to you all,

Just a quick update to you all regarding our annual Xmas competition, which started onthe 24th of December, and finishes tomorrow (4th January)

Salmon:

Two fish weighed in so far, one by the writer at 8.1kg, and another by Warren Lewis, weighing in at 11.10kg. Several emergency releases have been forced on the Salmon hatchery at Sawyers Bay due to consistent high daytime temperatures creating unsuitable conditions for the fish in the tanks (30+ degrees ) These fish were released in a stressed and undersize condition, however it appears that a reasonable percentage of released fish survived.

Gamefish:

Dave Carr had a successful day today, landing a mako shark of 173kg, and a Blue shark of 42kg. Both fish have set new benchmarks for anglers this season, and game fishers in our club are reminded to tag and release any fish that look to be under these sizes. Several days ago, Dave tagged a mako shark of around 100kg, and this was released in good condition. Well done Dave...maybe things are looking good for the Nationals after all!

Other:

Blue Cod are still plentiful in most areas, with members reporting good bags of fish that were in good condition. Our "Blue Cod-to-beat" currently stands at 3.50kg (Dave Carr)

Steve MacKay weighed in a beautiful Rays Bream of 1.5kg several days ago, caught right at the bottom in water around 900 feet deep! Other species include a Trumpeter of 1.5kg caught by Trevor Brown, and a big, fat Red Cod of 2.00kg, by Dave Carr

Best regards,

Mark Cameron
