Fishing Reports
They're here!
After a couple of slow weeks with the water being so cold or not as warm as it should have been, the Snapper have arrived!
One day there was none, the next there was heaps! There has been an increasing amount of signs showing up around the place, especially over some areas of undulating and low lying foul. These are the areas we have been fishing over the past few days with great success.
A few really nice Snapper are coming aboard with all the others being in the 35-45 cm range. Nothing over 7.5kg yet but it will happen as the schools move in and take up residency for the summer.
So far as bait goes, it seems to be those good old NZ pillies and our old fave, Lolago squid. Small bite size baits have been doing the damage on ledger rigs for the bigger groups we have had onboard. But on one evening trip, the few guys that used the whole pillies rammed up a squid, pulled some nice fish to about 7lb, until a shark started to get into the gear and screw the evening up for us.
I'll keep you posted as the season gets going and as we find the locations that start to fish better than others. Keep an eye on the reports page.
We are doing quite a few work group trips at the moment and they are having a ball. Get your mates together for one or join one of our "casuals" days by emailing us at deepsea@clear.net.nz. We always put aside days each month to allow casual anglers to get out on the water for the day.
