Rising demand for Yamaha’s popular range of four stroke outboards has seen the development of an advanced new engine manufacturing facility.

The facility, located in Shizuoka prefecture, Fukuroi City, will house a number of marine assembly lines that have been relocated from the current manufacturing base.  The Fukuroi Plant will greatly improve productivity and further enhance quality, with features such as robotic automation of painting processes and the adoption of module-type manufacturing

The rising popularity of Yamaha 4-stroke engines has increased pressure on Yamaha’s outboard production – particularly the increase in the overall size of motors, component size and the number of parts per motor. The relocation includes a reorganisation of manufacturing procedures as well as improving distribution and safety systems.

Greg Fenwick, Marine Manager for Yamaha-Motor New Zealand, says the global marine market is making a dynamic shift from 2-stroke engines to new 4-stroke technology.

“Yamaha is satisfying customer expectations by creating another manufacturing facility to help keep ahead of demand for 4-stroke outboards. This new initiative is another demonstration of Yamaha’s commitment to make the best 4-stroke outboards in the world,” he says.

Environmental considerations have also been a high priority in the new plant with the adoption of natural lighting, recycled water circulation systems and other sustainable measures.

The new Yamaha Fukuroi Plant sprawls over a 118,007m2 site with the factory covering over 35,000m2 of floor space.
