Those people are likely to have a licence. I have heard so cafes catching fish themselves and serving it up and getting finned for not having a catching licence. As soon as money comes into it, it is illegal

Pretty sure there is a difference between catching for food supply and pet trade. Would have thought the only issue would be if they are a protected species?

Just envisaging getting my cray noose around the head of one of those suckers....LOL

I get the all the time fishing LBG... you must have a big aquarium! My LBG spots are a long way from Wellington.

Pretty sure as long as what you catch complies with rec fishing rules (an eel is not a fin fish) where it goes after that is nobody's business?

It is illegal if money exchanges hands.. i have been on and off the phone with MPI all day and they have told me that it is fine to take morays as long as its not from a reserve, I am having one purpose bulit, 3m(L)x2m(w)x1m(h) so yea fairly large tank haha

Umm why put such a friendly fish in a tank? hope you have the tank strengthened as that is a lot of water 3mtrs long by 2 meter wide and 1 meter high... moray eels grow very large even in captivity and produce a lot of waste, and will eat any thing inside the tank as well. so please think about how big they grow before you get one..

Why not? what the difference in keeping clowns or tangs? ive had exotic morays before and enjoy them as they are more interactive than most fish... yea i have the design worked out.. I have had much larger tanks in the past, and yea thanks for your concern but i have taken size into account.
