First report, hope makes sense.
Took JW up on his offer of a trip out on Friday on his boat Tickety.
Organised one other to join and with both of us having done sod all lure fishing of softbaiting this would be a good opertunity to try out new methods and hopefully get a feed. Also Friday off work Smile  Being a bait fisherman wasn't to sure but at least didn't have to buy bait and bling to take out with me. With just the 2 of us on board, yeah, off we went from Sandspit for a comfortable ride out to the top of the Coromandel at 28knts. After a quick noisy around after finding dolphins. JW set us up on our first drift and gave good instructions on how to use the Kabura Sliders. Don't strike! bugger I like striking the hook into the fishes month. So a new method of slow winding was tried. Expect my mate Greg who looked like he was doing nothing but standing there. This seemed to work just as well.
First drop Fish, Second drop Fish. Is a bit easier when you don't have to check baits. Fast forward to 10am and with the bin nearly full, Mr standing there catches a nice 15 pound snapper. This was our one and only drift we needed. Sad thing about fishing the deeper water is having to keep the larger fish as most were blown. Any that were fine to send back we did or it would have been even a shorter day and for a couple of people spending money on a charter, we are also paying for the enjoyment on being on the water for a good time, away from work on a boat we cant afford so don't want to catch a feed and get back as quickly as possible.
With all the fish in the bin under ice off we went back to Kawau Island to practice Softbaiting. More instructions on softbaiting and then off we went. Managed to fluke a good snapper out of the wash but then it all went quite. Oh well a good day had and time to head home. Besides someone not understanding the concept that to sit down first have a seat to sit on was a great day out.
Thanks Jonathon.
Now time for flitting a session
