New Diesel Outboard

Been looking at diesel outboards for a few years now, If there was a decent 100hp one at around the same cost as a petrol version i would buy it.
Diesel will still be in use long after petrol is no longer widely used due to extreme pricing.
If you think you are too small to make a difference,try sleeping with a mosquito in your tent.
I am not saying I wouldn't love one if it all was cool with price and engine but there are a couple of things that the old Volvo has in its favor.
If you get caught out in a blow it is nice to have the weight down by the keel and not swinging around up high behind the transom. Same goes for keeping the prop in the water.
I also find the outboard a pain when fishing sometimes.
That said it would be fun to wave the wand and try one on my boat for a while.
I reckon I might end up hiding it in the mangroves some place and keeping it?

Plus ... ease of access for maintenance, freeing up room inside and reducing penetrations through the hull.
Also some marinas don't have petrol pumps at their fuel berths - for example Nelson.
There certainly has been some great new developments on the diesel outboard front - oxe, yanmar and now these guys look to have added a lot of the tech that features in diesel road engines to extract more power with less weight than has been possible in the past.
The weight - lack of - figure for the Cox outboard is impressive for its size.
Probably commercial and military users will be the main market for them. Recreational applications I suspect will be few and far between for any of these diesel outboard motors.
The idea of having a marina berthed launch with the ability to tilt the propellers out of the water is very appealing though.

Diesel engines have come along way in the last 5yrs, Drove a v8 620hp Scania yesterday from Manukau to Rotorua with all up weight of 34t,return to Manukau empty used 190lt of fuel compared to the Merc of 520hp used 225 lt 45 per 100km compared to 54 per 100km Both auto.
