From the Far north to the bay of islands!

The trip started when we saw a small gap in the weather and the chance to get a couple days off work.
the plan was to head to the far north and then fish our way back down the coast. When things got closer the weather had deteriorated but that wasnt going to stop us with it still been off shore.
So we left auckland and headed north.
Day 1:
the plan was to head to north cape to target big kings and snaps but the weather was a lot more than planned so we made our way to the karikari islands where we spent the next couple hours targeting koheru for baits. it took us a while but we finally found a spot and loaded up big time.
We then set out slow trolling them for kings but with out much luck and missing 2 bites the day was getting late so we made the plan to anchor up and pump a big berley trail to try for some snaps.
They started off slow and the size soon increased. after a few dusting timmy landed the biggest for the session weighing over 23lb!
with another 6 fish over 15 lb we called it a night and made a plan for day 2

Day 2:
the plan was to head in the harbour and target some XXL trevs but after a couple hours and some nice models but nothing huging showing its self we cruised outside the bar and started making lunch.
While drifting along having a beer and lunch we noticed some really nice sign so dropped a softbait over and the next couple hours were some of the most insane softbaiting ive had .
we never had to re drift but just one massive drift with every cast turning into a solid snap.
Timmy again taking out the biggest at 18lb
but as fast as it started it stopped and the bite slowed. with the wind dropping off a bit we thought it could be our chance to head out to a deep pin to try some jigging that a mate had given me.
It took a while to get onto them but once we found them it was every drop and a few dustings later we had a couple fish landed over the 25kg mark on jigs and some sore backs

Day 3:
for the last day the plan was always to start fishing our way down the coast to make the drive home a bit easier and also we had a couple spots we wanted to try
first job was live koheru again but this time that was sorted in under 30 min and we soon had some been slow trolled through some surface schools of bait
And to our surprise one of the first fish we get is a 21lb snapper!
The day was slow but we kept at it and as the tide was coming up to the bottom of the low the bite really turned on and the the aternoon bite was awesome with big surface strikes on the slow trolled baits!

the beautiful bay of islands

So after a couple of action packed days with some big miles driven we headed home happy tired but most of all excited for the next adventure and making a plan for the next opportunity

Those that say it can't be done are being overtaken by those doing it.
