Hi all, thought I would share my recent experiences with two reel Tech specialists, mates and good buggers.
Firstly my good mate Will Grant, I've known Will for a few years now and have learnt so much from him. Will has been very generous with his time helping me set up a functional work station in my mancave to work on my own gear. Will has also sat with me to tutor and oversee servicing my own reels.
Will has recently started his own business WG reel Services, check his FB page for his services and contact details.

More recently I have had the absolute pleasure of dealing with Clem Henry another reel guru and good bugger who has kindly tutored me on the magical world of magseal.
Clem has this week fully serviced two of my magseal spin reels, one of which I had the chance to sit in on and a couple of things occur to me.
1: It's always a good idea to get an expert to do things that take expertise. Make no mistake there is a degree of expertise required to fully service a magseal reel.

2: Regular cleaning/maintenance of reels is really important and at least once a year a full breakdown service by an expert Tech is money very well spent.
Clem also offers a pre use service, which I was a little unsure of until I handed him a brand new jigging reel a while back.
The reel was BNIB high end jigging reel which came back a couple of days after handing it over running way smoother with better free spool and drag stack more effectively greased and all external screws sealed to help prevent water ingress.
Clem is also on FB and has a great website " Hi-ika" check that out to, some really good info and products to be found there.
Both of these guys are passionate about fishing and Reel technology, check them out and get your reels serviced by expert good buggers 👍
Cheers Pete

Good to have that first-hand recommendation.

Is Clem affiliated with Daiwa for the magseal service - ie access to the notorious fluid - or totally independent? I've read so much on the forum about magseal reels and the servicing limitations (or not!) that i'm not sure what to think anymore!
I have a mid-range Caldia, so keen to understand what the story is.

Lester I was in the very same boat until this week.
Clem is professionally associated with Daiwa NZ.
My Daiwa reels were bought a year ago and have been serviced in line with the warranty recommendation.
Big relief for me personally and money very well spent IMO

Great to know - it's always fantastic to have that peace of mind.

I recently dunked a reel accidentally while in Australia (not my Caldia) and got Greg at GoFish to give it a service so that i could rest assured it wasn't going rusty inside. Another expert I have no hesitation turning to, given that I don't have the skills to do servicing myself.

thanks again for posting, Pete.

Don't forget Swordfish Steve.
He fixed the drag of a little Tica Caiman baitcaster, subsequently landed. 20lb Snapper on 12 lb braid p, Veritas PE 0.4-1 rod and a 28g Colt Sniper
Buttery smooth drag allowed the fish to run.

Pete can help you out with a direct contact for the two people he's used.

But if that doesn't work out, in terms of logistics etc, Go Fish is on a little side road off Barry's Pt Rd in Takapuna. They're not open Sundays.
Very well worth a visit just to wander around and buy some new tackle. they have quite a bit of stuff which isn't necessarily mainstream.

Good to hear we have some new guys with skills.

I have taken time to learn to service my own gear.
And as a collector I detail all my vintage and antique gear.

I have found as support for me, Steve... Swordfish Steve has been invaluable as has Paul who was based at WS Laurie, sadly that avenue is closed.

As I said good to hear new guys are taking up the mantel for all our benefit.
Just cruising in a pimped old Surtees! And. Soon to be pimped out Southern 755 HT0!
