How’s it looking for this weekend fellas, out from kawakawa bay. Was planning on heading up on Friday from Gisborne, but looks like it might be a bit windy. Rather wait a week or two than be land bound up there.

Looks optimistic, plenty of time for that to change tho!

Looking at bottom end kk, flats, out into the firth
Sat and Sun similar thu think wind will pick up a little Sun early to mid arvo.
Rain all clear.. possible couple showers late arvo.. unlikely as the rain tends to avoid or go around that general area out over the water. Overcast.
Wind: light NE breeze at most. High tides are around 9:20/ 10:15 am, ( thats outside shag rock area) so with a NE basically coming down into the gulf /Firth over greater distances, the chop (wind against tide) could be a little uncomfortable in a small boat (under 5m) outside of lea of land.

Given the wide( time length) window..basically today right thru to Mon.. Frid arvo and sun arvo wind picks up a LITTLE for a while,  doubt any significant to the above, and being only 3 /4 days out.
Just watch tide (current against breeze )

Yep doesn’t look to bad at the moment, might be forced to wait a couple more weeks anyway now due to work. This humid weather has slowed me up considerably and haven’t been able to get much stock work done.

Might be OK.  I haven't been out for a long while so will try to o whatever.  Anyone any thoughts on where though?

Devonport/dockyards - still fish around?
Rangi/channel area - better bet?  Plus the bonus of some kahawai workups maybe
Motuhie channel - I always reckon it is not so goo later summer, could be wrong
Other - dont say turn over and go back to sleep

Caught yesterdays/ todays window
We stop and set up.. rig rods, roll back clears , set up burley pot etc.. over one of several pre marked bits of foul a kim or so out from the ramp.
Suprising as was on mid dropping tide, friends  girlfriend, 1st ever fish a nice 43 cm snap. Then followed by another couple good high 30s.
Thats the basic "every family has a feed done."  So rest of the day  bonus/ smoker.
Headed up thru Waiheke channel, a few terns working and a huge area of small kys ... picked up a few as live baits  casting Sbs around the boat. And another low 40s snap off the bottom.
Drifted a favourite shallow , again adding a few nice pannies and a nice 54 cm
The headed out around shag rock with a few more long drifts over and around reefs after tide turned.  Slow retrieve of snaps so would not bloat them up, light gear, and since bin getting full, dropped a few smaller fish back, keeping the larger 30s.
Then last long drift, current getting up, was a fish every bait drop and sbs doing 1/2 as well. Lot under sized.
Headed home with 16 good fish in the bin, no sign of any kings.

Some nice swells coming into the gulf from the NE with huge periods.. lot of force in these when hit the shore.

Nice one steps, hopefully still fishing well in a couple of weeks when I get up there. My sister helps out Kevin at the bait shed and said there’s some nice fish coming in.
