Well I better kick this season off with a report of what i have found recently. Boated this nice YFT off Doubtless Bay in 420m last Wednesday, went 54kg Pinfish for Whangaroa Club at present, sure to be beaten any day. Another smaller YFT also caught similar area same day on Albacora, plenty of shallow scattered bait sign, from 450m into 200m off Wekaroa, with nice temp breaks of 18deg to 19.5 deg , water clarity was nice blue/green, with skippies and albacore mixed in same area, so all looking like a great start to an early season. I see there was a few more YFT and a Mahimahi and a Shortbill also caught there yesterday. cheers swordfishsteve

Out with a mate, towed lures out to the garden patch, not even a sniff.
Heaps of skippies, had to pull the bungies in eventually.
Stayed at Northcape for the night, boys slayed it on a cray dive.
Towed lures back out to the garden patch & then half way home after a puka fish. Dead
Water 22c up to 22.5c, some nice blue stuff not far out from the cape. Very little bird sign.
Bit early I guess

Had a tow today ,headed up to the 140m off Wekarau.Stayed between 140 and 120m and then back down to behind stevies .Saw one fish feeding on the surface about 100m in front of the boat  but when i finally got to where I saw it ,Zilch.Picked up the smallest kingfish ever ,about 200mm on the bungy .Saw a few schools of saurie doing the dance in these areas.Heard a guy hook up 400mm sea mount and got spooled .About 15 boats up my way ,not to much action .Nice day out !!!
