With sea temperatures 2C higher than normal and predictions for a hotter than normal summer, what will this season's game fishing be like?

Roy I will tell you in April what it was like. It is interesting that everybody gets really excited about really hot water. I remember seasons in Northland where water was way hotter than normal up around 24 to 25 degree water, beautiful purple colour and the fishing was very poor, usually an early flurry of fish and then the main part of the season was pretty dead with only a few stripy's in closer and occasional blues in the deep. Admittedly this was before the advent of SST and Chlorophyll charts so we may have just not found the fish, but I doubt that was the case.

Mangre may have something to say on this, come in Paul.

yes aprils a great time for this discusion,

i don't know what to make out of the tasman sea temp.
maybe we should all go of to the west coast of the  s / island , i have heard there be marlin spot there some where miles from a close port

at the moment i think to bring the  fish in we need a north east weather pattern really helps  and with a bit of swell

Hey Vance,
Time will tell, very strange pattern.

There may be some very interesting fish catch surely.

I'm looking at 22 inside white.  last year 17 to 18.

Its pumping down the east coast, all the breaks have gone straight since this super moon, so I can imagine the current is running quite fast and the fish with it I presume. Its like someone grabbed all that good water up north and threw it down the coast.  Good thing for you Vance, as its all in the bay, and  pushing up the coast.

Thanks Paul, Interesting that nobody has caught anything other than that Big Eye which I understand was caught at or near the Rangatira's. I did hear that a boat out from Whakatane lost a Yellow fin at the boat a couple of days ago. I am sure that with this great weather there would have been a fair few boats trying their luck.

Its similar to 2008 I reckon which is the last time i recall  we had big current flows and 25/26deg water.

from memory Whitiangi was the 1st area to go off . Maybe the same this year if that BOP water is pushing in that way :)  just an thought !
