We pulled this out of about 250m north of Mayor.
Only got one photo. Just after this it liberate itself
Anyone know what it is

Without any certainty I think it maybe a Pale Snapper or a close relative.

Edit: Having said that I'm more leaning towards a Rubyfish.

Sweep. Scorpis lineolatus. Very common around North Island. Close cousin of the blue maomao.
