Lake Rotorua's surface water temperature rose 0.5 of a degree beween 6am and 1pm today to 19.58 degrees C. Algae levels have dropped from 4.2 down to 2.1 and the wind speed has dropped to 9.36kph from 20.88kph at 7am this morning. The wind direction was ENE over night but has swung to slightly north of West at 9.36kph. Barometric pressure has risen two points to 1025.3hPa and humidity has dropped 3% to 51%. We are expecting a high of 20 degrees C by 3pm this afternoon and currently have 15 degrees and partly cloudy. The UV Index is very high at 8.
Lake Rotoiti's surface water temperature continues to drop and is down around the 19 degree mark. The thermocline is below 14 metres.
A very well conditioned 5.32kg rainbow jack was weighed in at Okeefe's Fishing Specialists this morning. It was caught in Lake Rotoiti, trolling at 26 metres down. The hole at Ruato Bay is starting to stack up with fish, which can mean that the Dump may well have some fish cruising off it now as well. The two spots seem to be linked somehow at this time of the year.
The Ngongotaha River continues to fish well, particularly in the upper reaches. Natural imitations seem to be working best.
A size 16 parachute Adams has been catching fish on the Whirinaki over the past few days, when little else has been working.
The Waiteti mouth has fished well to a size 16 hare and copper or pheasant tail, especialy early morning, over the past week.
