Tagit ..even when we seated the camaro bearings.. exactly the same as HQ holden and lot trailers, then backed off then torqued as per the instruction sheet... as you said we had play after a while...
Never had that happen before in over 40yrs.
Followed up with a few workshops.. the common denominator was chinese bearings...
When setting them they either would have play or would be slightly over tightened which caused failure.
Either way cause for early failure..
Since then, once again set right 1st time, stay set and high milage not an issue.

I have set of 3/4" drive sockets I use for bigger stuff (e.g. boat trailer rollers).  They would fit the crown nuts, but the torque wrench is 1/2"

Unless I can find an adapter.

A torque a little more than finger tight.. to be able to measure that you will be looking at a 1/4 drive torque wrench....and yep you can get those...used to use them on torquing holley metering blocks, power valves and fuel bowls.
As far as adapters go.. my tool set I can go up or down  in drive size, as I please for adapters..

But then set the bearing/ hub.. back off ..  re torque finger tight... then split pin in that or next hole
Where does the torque wrench come in?

its funny. I took my trailer in for a WOF on Wednesday. Im normally really anal about bearings, brakes etc etc. Got to WOF place smelled burnt smell. Brakes and bearings on the front axle kaput. Went to get new bearings yesterday and had to order them because no one has any other sort of bearings other than Chinese crap. still not here today.

Both seals on the backs of the front hubs had perished and peeled the water lips off them and let water in. Never seen that before
