Bang on, Tagit.
I did the Cape Brett walk a few years ago in summer, with an overnight at the Doc hut and taxi out from the wharf at the bottom off the point the next morning. It's weather dependent.
The walk is tough, up and down about 7 peaks, not for the unfit and your thighs will feel it for the next couple of days. Beautiful part of the country, though.
I lugged a pack which included berley, bait, gear to strayline off the rocks. I only got some kahawai, but it looks very fishy and it was a walk with girlfriend and future in-laws more than a fishing jaunt - so I didn't get to explore to find the best spots.
I hadn't tried top water off the rocks at that point, so I didn't know what I was missing out on, but it would be my choice now if I went back. Less gear to carry and looks very promising.
