Hey guys I’m heading over to waiheke tomorrow (sat) and il be staying around palm beach, I’m taking over my topwater set and a few baitrunners. Just wanted to know any areas I could try some stickbaits and maybe put out a few Livies. I don’t do much land based fishing so I’m keen to give it a try, could anyone point me in the right direction and just give a few tips for the area

Thanks

there's a nice fishing area to the right of Little Oneroa as you look out to sea. A rocky shelf which drops into about 4m. I think it's called Fisherman's Rock or something similar. A staircase goes down to it from the end of the road, or you can walk all the way from Little Oneroa at water line.
I've caught reasonable snapper, and seen a great john dory caught there. I landed an under-sized kingie on a live mackerel after seeing a couple cruising the weedline.Just tossed the jack mack in un-weighted and bingo. Unfortunately it wasn't the big one I'd seen. Murphy's Law.

I reckon it'd be a decent spot for top water at the right time.
Lots of boat and foot traffic this time of the year, though. And it'll be onshore from Sunday.

The shoreline around from the Matiatia ferry looks good as well. I've done the walk minus fishing gear, and thought it'd be ideal for casting a few spinners.

You can walk around the rocks on low tide to the point or walk along the track and walk down the steep bit at the end.........it gets quite a lot of action fromn the boat coming in and going out .......so keep your gear up on the rocks and watch for the backwash but i used to catch plenty of fish there and see kingy cruise around the point there........it can be weedy but if you berley there........when the big boat comes in....it can stir up everything around....including your berley........I caught a legal king there once over 20 pound( but i lost a 15kg fish there one day as well)....it came off the hook and lay there belly up......i jumped down onto the rock and was knee deep....cradled the king and threw it over my head and back onto the rocks behind me ! ......he had is chance to swim off but didnt take it !.....used to get trevs there as well as snaps/ky/kings.
Once the idiots turn up..Im outta here...No time for Drama Queens.

Beware Fishermans Rock used to get hammered at this time of year.
Since you are staying at Palm Beach, the western rocks around from Enclosure Bay could be good for an early morning or evening session.  1/2 low tide will see you getting around but beware it is fairly shallow so a Kingi would be fun....

If you have transport then both points of Owhanake bay and from the rocks from Church bay to Matiatia also produce and easyish access.  You can also walk around the track from Matiatia to the right and there is a nice "Island" connected with a pebble causeway that can be great for kingis.
