Fished 4 weeks ago (harling) and caught a beauty straight away - went back yesterday and no bites - thinking of different lures? as fish cant go deep its to shallow due to warmer temps? Anyone tried jigging?
The Tamure Kid wrote: Do you have any fly fishing gear? If so, try drifting near the obvious weed beds with a floating line and a lightly weighted damsel nymph on the end. You don't need to cast. The line/s stream out behind the boat, and you'll hopefully suddenly see the line tighten - game on. We've had a lot of success doing that. You can use an indicator if you want to use heavier nymphs, or have trouble detecting takes, but any nymphs with a bit of inherent movement, marabou etc. should bring success. Another option, if you only have spin gear, is to anchor or drift casting Rapala CD5 or CD7 lures. Focus on the weed edges, which is where the rainbows cruise. Browns tend to be inside the weed banks, in the shallows. Check out the YouTube clips of guys spinning with Rapalas on the Big O. Impressive results. I think that's 'Flyfisher' off the Forum. |
