Well, she's already announced a new tax with the fuel tax so she got that promise out of the way quick smart.

This appeared as a editorial headline in "The Australian",  Australias biggest selling newspaper few days back.

"Kiwis now led by a commie as Ardern attacks capitalism and embraces socialist roots." Shocked
Let the taxes begin.
Petrol tax for auckland. Will mostly effect the poorest section of society.
And petrol increases will be greater than 10c. Our dollar against the $US  has fallen from around $72.40 at the time peters announced coalition with labour to $68.40 this morning and still sliding.
Seems currency markets do not like even the remotest posibility of isolationist N.Z.
Petrol tax to fund multi billion  tram or rail link from CBD to airport.
Why do we need that. We already have skybus. Regular link from CBD to airport. Runs down dominion road and another down Mt Eden road.
Stops at all bus stops. I have been taking note over last few months at the number of passengers on these buses. Usually almost empty, just a small number of passengers. So why would rail on the same route be any different..
Maybe like the thousand kilometers of expensive bike lanes recently installed in Auckland that very people few use.
Would appear to be a lack of clear ,logical ,researched thinking where it is most needed.
Maybe the answer to future commuter travel lies in this. lillium.com.
electric air taxis. Vertical takeoff and landing jet, takes up to five passengers. First successful prototypes completed.
As for fisheries. Would not count on much change. Why would there be. Given they have quickly shelved the proposed Kermadec reserve.
Indication of attitude.
Imagine the possible increase of YFT in our summer waters if this reserve was in place.

Getting back to the thread subject of rec fisheries. So far it's a big win for rec fishers:
- MPI disbanded and acknowledgement that fisheries had faced "dysfunction"
- dedicated Ministry of Fisheries
- Stuart Nash appointed Minister of Fisheries who has among other things in the past pushed for a trawler exclusion zone for Hawkes Bay

Ignoring anything else that may happen, I'm quietly optimistic about fisheries management and recreational fishing going forward!

mentioned in 1st post think it was...

a thought.. dollar has been over valued due to buoyant economy growth..
Dollar drops.. there goes fuel price.. then add the extra $ s road charges on, then top off with another traffic surcharge..
That knocks our boat fuels up even more significantly
And we we not on the bloody road..
How to knock out a lot of the rec fish inshore take?
Make boating  only affordable to dingies with oars...

Quick estimate, crunch numbers, assuming offshore fuel prices remain constant... 10c levy plus dollar drop equates to a good 20/30c for Aucklanders.

Maybe like the thousand kilometers of expensive bike lanes recently installed in Auckland that very people few use.
Would appear to be a lack of clear ,logical ,researched thinking where it is most needed.

The 'research ' says  put them in and ppl will use them.. possible because they have caused so much congestion simply by reducing the number lanes at critical locations.
And yep the research works, its on the nail... the local lane down our major (and now badly congested ,local main rd) have seen 6 cyclists use it in the last 2 yrs... including school children from 2 high schools 1 intermediate and 4 primary schools... One of those people was me.

Anyone got a child looking at something to do for their masters/ phd papers?
