With the IGFA rule changes regarding braid  I am probably like a lot of others wanting to down size all my gear.  I was wanting to run a cost effective system and was thinking of running 65lb hollow braid with a small 80lb top shot of 10m or so on tyrnos 30 2 speeds.

From what I understand they have a similar capacity to talica 25s they run about 15 or 16kg of drag etc.

I was after some opinions and if anyone has used them successfully.

Currently I fish with penn 50wides 7kg of drag as I use light gauge hooks and im out of a small boat.

many thanks

jake

Jake I have not used them for gamefishing but I have a Tynos 20 2-Speed for kingies/bluenose where I fish about 10kg of drag at strike (The 20 is just a narrower version of the 30). They are great reels with awesome smooth drags and I am sure would be perfectly adequate for what you want to do with them.

They'll be sweet, I use an International 12 and 16 for that sort of duty.

Thanks all for the input!  Gowest I am really interested in what type of braid you are using, the joins of braid to top shot and how many meters total you have.

500-600 yard of 60 and 80# on my 12 and 16 internationals. My 30 has about 600 yards of 100# on it. All have about 100 metres of top shot.

Measured 1000m of Daiwa P.E 5 topped off with 100m Stren 24 KG on my 30W LRS reels

BFB have your little international 12's been given Cals treatment? I have reconfigured my bellvue washers but max out drag at about 5-6 kilo before free spool starts to be affected.....

cheers. do you think 500 metres of 80lb braid + 100 metres of 100lb mono is enough for a bit of casual game fishing?

Id use a bit more braid and maybe 50 or 80lb mono to get more capacity. 600m is a tad on the light side for me.

Hey mate I did a heap of research on braids checking diameter breaking strain and costs also so I could get best bang for buck.

At the time on my TLD 30 I spooled 750m of 50lb Powerpro depth hunter then PR knot to 150m 50lb Suffix. 900m total & 200lb windon ( would of put a tad more braid on and 100m topshot in hindsight but hard to guage at the time )

After that a bought a Talica 25 and loaded that with 850m of 60lb Tasline hollow and spliced that to 90m of 50lb suffix. 940m total and 200lb windon

Talica 50 has 1000m of 80lb tasline hollow spliced onto 70m of 80lb Moimoi topshot. 300lb windon leader

That Tasline hollow is a very thin dia. and high breaking strain braid its awesome Kiwi made stuff. The 60lb tests around 94lb and 80lb around 127lb and cheaper than hollowace or JB

Solid braid to mono I use PR knot and hollow braid just splice. Neither are hard to do with a bit of practice

Yes the 12 and 30 have been converted to two-speeds as well as blueprinted and drag cams upgraded. The 16 has just been blue printed and drag cam changed all by Cal.

I've seen well over 100 stripies caught and once only, a near spooling - 6/0 - 850/24 mono. That was a 107 kg!!
Every other one has never had more than about 500 metres out, at max. You'd always want much more than that, though..like close to 1000M.
The Tasline hollowthen insert mono and serve.

Be yourself; everyone else is already taken
