Spent a morning out on the Manukau harbour seeing if softbaiting could get me a few snapper, and it worked, quite well too.

Nice one Coxie. I also do a bit of SB in sandy/harbour areas where people mostly bait & burley, sometimes with good results.

That's really cool Coxie. That low sun kind of puts it all in perspective too. I've caught snapper, gurnard and kahawai n softies in the harbour but not in those numbers in that time frame. I'm guessing you're fishing shallow? 5m? Great effort!

Yeah was fishing in 5m Smudge, just drifting too, not anchored like I usually would in the harbour. I'm interested to see how this works on the gurnard when they show up in numbers

I'm pretty sure they will work Coxie. Pumpkin seed or new penny colours would be my pick. Have caught a few on softies but prefer baits in the harbour. One thing I have found is that bigger snapper seem to like inchikus, big gurnard often have fish in their gut as opposed to smaller ones that mostly feed on crabs and shrimps. Softies are a real possibility for bigger gurnard.

Wondering what Kabura would be like for Gurnard in the Manukau.
Have caught gurnard on them in the gulf but for some reason never tried them in the Manukau. Never really needed to.
Something to try this winter.
