Mate and I have been exploring the east coast and west coast of Auckland for a decent fish in the last 3 month. We'very tried Muriwai, Waipu, Army bay, Tindell, Waiwera etc.. but never caught anything bigger than 45cm snappers or 85 cm king.
Are there other areas anyone can suggest that can produce decent size fish ? We don't mind a bit of drive if required and a feed is not really target, more like to hook up to some decent size fish for thrill.

Cheers

Thats about average and id think you wont do any better in Auck than Army bay point.

but if you can get to marsden point and whangarei heads, you might get lucky. but id go to either Mermaid Pools, Whale Bay or id consider the far north west coast of coromandel, especially this time of year, a lot of big snapper and kings are taken from fantail bay upward. but you are looking at 2.5+ hours drive.

Cheers for that mate!
Perhaps we had set our hopes too high. 😂
Had good days with mentioning but too many days also where's we are just feeding the fish. (Especially snaps).
But the challenges makes our missions completely addictive.
Coming from a guy that just went on a 3 trip at Ranfurly banks in Jan getting smash by 36kg + kingies and 30kg + pukas
But yeah, sounds like Coromandel might be the go for us next.
