Hello All,

I will be visiting Rarotonga in a couple weeks and was thinking I would like to cast fish for something to do. Is a local fishing license required? Also what type of fish can I expect to catch and what is good bait or lure for that? Appreciate all advice I can get.

Thanks

I was there in October last year, did a half day charter with Marlin Queen, they're a great bunch and work hard to get you onto fish, we didn't have much luck the day we went but got a few small yellowfin.

I did ask Diane about charters for casting to reef fish (GT's etc) but it doesn't sound like anyone does it. There is a spot down in Muri lagoon by where Captain Moko's Fishing charter is where big GTs and Bluefin Trevally hang out and feed off Moko's scraps, there was a guy there with his own gear casting for them.

Thanks for the tip Smelli. My wife and I plan to hire them out one of the days we are there. It sounds like the marlin are around this time of year.

Hey Stonefish thanks fir the tip about Moko's scrap pile. We are staying in the Muri Beach area so that may be the plan that works.
