Gidday, this year is the 20th anniversary for Barkers Grand Slam spearfishing tournament at Durville Island Wilderness Resort in the outer Marlborough Sounds. This tournament is a fun weekend of spearfishing and other hillarity, including a lot of socialising, drinking, and yahooing on the Saturday night (its an old fashioned piss up!). Most spearos arrive Thursday and stay till Sunday.
Tournament fees are $100 per person which includes the meal on Saturday night plus your first dozen beers.
Please book into Durville Island Wilderness Resort for Waitangi weekend 2017. Its the first weekend in February. Phone 03-5765268 to book accommodation or a tent site at the resort (We have the whole resort booked just for us).
This is an invitation only tournament which is attended by spearfishing royalty from around the globe. Please treat this post as your official invitation.
As our 20th anniversary this years event will be bigger and better than ever. Please wear a pair of orange pants and a hawaiin shirt to the prizegiving if you have them.
Unlike most spearo tournaments BGS has just 2 rules -: No chicks. No dickheads!
Any queries please PM me.
Cheers
Barx

Sweet. Bring on the masses. For the newbies, Saturday is comp day. No rules. Leave when you want. spearo where you want and what you want. Return when you want (most are at the bar by about 5ish). Just weigh in your biggest fish of any species - the one you think will be worth the most points. Our computerised algorithm works out the top scoring fish, and because the guy who wrote the algorithm is now dead nobody knows how the scoring works! At the function on Saturday night spearos also compete is drinking races, joke telling, and a mystery event. The competitor with the most points total for all categories is crowned the grand slam winner.

Gidday. The organising committee just had our annual planning meeting with diwr who host the event. It looks like we'll have another good turnout this year and the weather forecast is excellent for light winds, calm seas, and huge viz. Please confirm your booking with virginia at durville island wilderness resort. We have a massive change this year which we hope will work ok. Please prepare your teams. The Saturday night formal ceremonies will be lubricated by an entry funded starter pack of 4 jugs rather than 12 stubbies. Phew! Big changes!
See y'all there.

Also Durville Island Wilderness Resort have a boat available for the tournament. Its about an 8 or 9 metre ali monster with a big 4 stroke outboard. A very competent boat that I'm sure could take 6 or so spearos for the weekend. If your considering this event but don't have a boat this could be an option. Call Virginia or Ashley and cut a deal.

Guys
Its time to drag out your 10 year anniversary BGS orange pants, iron your hawaian shirt, throw them in your dive bag and get to Durville. We'll be there from Thursday to Monday night. Cheers Barx.
