Chartplotter under alloy hardtop

I'm in the process of upgrading my chart plotter and just wondering if I need to get one with a external antenna because it will be under a alloy hard top??

I am doing the same thing. Existing one works without an antenna so I'll try without one and see how it goes

Mine work fine under the hard top, even th eflush mounted one. I did get a Point 1 external antenna which seems to lock on to satellites a bit quicker and has no lag.
