Hi.
I am fishing addicted, incurable. Northland is home past 30 years. I will be in Waikato, Morinsville area for Sept. Quite keen to see, try carp fishing, just because I never have. Any suggestions, or anyone I can tag along with perhaps please? I bring a suitable rod and reel, dont know about hooks, weights, or floats?
Cheers

Your in the capital of NZ Carp fishing in the Waikato - where there are so many that commercial fishing cant put a dent in them. The Waikato and it tributaries are chocker then the lakes in Huntly where NZ largest carp hunt comp happens each year. Bow and arrow will get you numbers but if its the sport your after anywhere you see water is worth setting up for a fish session

True?
I grew up in Hamilton, spent years working around Waikato, but they were not there then. Its just out of interest of catch something different. I should maybe ask Morinsville sport shop when I get there. Do I need a freshwater licence?
Thanks

Not for carp, but for Rudd, Perch and Tench yes a freshwater sports licence.

That is a good question. The problem comes about if you kept the sports fish (why would you?) or fished for coarse fish in venues without carp.
Most of the lakes though with carp in now are over run with them (causing coarse venues to be ruined as a result).

As carp are deemed to be a noxious species, you are duty bound to kill Koi carp.
Be yourself; everyone else is already taken
