Hi Guys

I am actually on Tarawa, Kiribati Islands and need help urgently.

I have a 2008 model Mercury 40hp tiller steers motor and when I remove my prop the other day i notice the rubber seal at the back of it is in a very bad condition. It look like it is the rubber hub which forms part of the prop. Can i replace that rubber or do i need a new prop. Motor model is ME 40 ML. 3 blade alloy prop with exhaust through prop. Anymore info needed just let me know
As the internet here are very slow i cannot search alot so i need from all the good Kiwi guys in NZ. If someone on here can help me out please. I need it urgently as i am stranded with the good weather we have now.
I only need it to reach our office in Auckland before next week Monday evening.

Thanks in advance

Deon

Not sure from your description but sounds like prop bushing is failing (shock absorber in hub?)  you can drill through hub and hold with screws for now as a workaround I did this on my old Johnson years ago - when bushing fails is like clutch slip on a car?  Is essential when prop hits a rock as saves gears from shattering on impact.
Good fishing trip nothing breaks, great trip catch fish.

Happened to me once on an evinrude. Put prop on two bits of board so centre piece could fit through, got a hydraulic jack with a socket to fit into hole and used boat & trailer as the resistance, this pushed the rubber bush out, then thorough cleaning to get rid of salt, burned rubber etc, vinegar baking soda then Hot fresh water.
when all clean and dry, got araldite quickset glue smeared both bush and internals on prop, pressed home and left for 24 hrs, repair lasted 5 yrs and then sold boat, never heard a peep about it. Just a thought, may work.
