The weather forecast and tide times are looking great for a mission out from the wreck this weekend. Does anyone have any info on how the fishing is on the Kaiaua side at the moment? Mr Dennehy reckons the snaps are spawning on time this year and that the evening bite is better that the morning. Can anyone confirm?

Had a very productive early morning fish yesterday. Catching fish from the outset at 12m, they were very aggressive on the bite, caught our limit and back to the ramp by 10am.
A lot of the snapper were behaving like kahawai when being pulled in, haven't really experienced that before with snaps

Mooched around a few spots as hadnt been out for awhile, ended up in 20m middle of the firth.
Nice bin full, nice and fat like footballs!

We headed out from Kaiaua yesterday in mirror flat conditions and headed up to the mussel farms. After a couple of hours of fishing and no keepers we headed across to Waikawau outer farms in mint conditions. Fishing was slow but we managed 11 snaps from 33 to 42 and headed back in sloppy and worsening conditions. Would like to get out again before going back to work on the 4th. Has anyone had any success from Kaiaua recently and where is it going off?

Seems to be a common story recently about fickle fishing on the kaiaua side ..looks like we will be giving it a go saturday first thing .
Hope we find something on the bite

Did another mish out from Kaiaua yesterday afternoon/evening hoping for a more productive time. Set out from the quarry, with no other trailers parked up, into sloppy conditions and a 11 knot norwesterly. Headed for the southern shallows to do some drifting in flatter water. After an hour the wind died a bit so we headed deeper. Ended up at 12m and when the bite came on at 7.30pm we slowly put some small snaps and a gurnard in the bin till it went off at 8.30. Got back to the ramp in low light with 7 snaps and 1 gurnard.

Lots of little snapper in close, but apparently the bigger snaps are holding at 25m+.

Going to test that out on Saturday as well.

We overslept but headed out on the jetski around high tide for a couple of hours, ended up with 5 snapper plus lost one keeper that flipped out of the chilly bin back in the water and sunk (cut my thumb getting the knife to iki him too, but had a first aid kit). Fish were mostly low to mid thirties, last fish was 49cm. We were dragging softies in 6m south of Kaiaua, pink shine 10cm jigging grub got the most fish.

I think I passed you on the way in Cigar. We were out in the tinny at about 6:30, just south of Kaiaua. Just got a couple of throwbacks tho.

Left the Guy C Goss ramp at 7am dragged softies around the farms, outside along the front then over the rubble after for only one snap and little sign on the sounder.
Headed into the deep 27m no wind so drifted softies and baits for 3/4 hr for no result.
Ended at the top farms on the other side in 25m tied up in the farms and stray lined baits. Ended up with 16 average sized snaps after the tide turned and got back to the ramp at 1.30

We were on the water at 7am and headed for around 25m outside the kaiaua farm. Found some sign on sounder and produced a nice gurnard and small snappa . Chased a work up but had just broken up when we arrived and picked up some small kahawai. Anchored up at 24.5 And added another gurnard and 2 snaps. A mate was catching straight out from the wreck in 10m so headed back down to have it a crack but only small fish for us so back on the trailer at 1pm and headed home.

Fished out of Guy c goss this evening for a few couple hrs or so at the mussel farm.Bait and burley for us in the stiff northerly.
Kept a neat dozen of good eaters up to 450mm.
Great to get a few over this side for a change.

Not much luck for us today, kept one snapper, put two back and lost one at the net. Had quite a few bites that didn't stick.
