Hi All, Here's 2 possible dates, we've got about 5 people interested from the forums so far we may spread the net further to try and get others who may also have concerns/questions.
The earliest dat his not a Saturday but next Tuesday Jan 31st is free, time is flexible but something like 6:30-7pm start I would envisage.
The next available date is Sat 25th February, 12-3pm.
There's a possibility it could be at Fishing Net offices or LegaSea HQ, will confirm once we have the date sorted.

End of Jan sounds good to me.
Time to get things sorted before we are asked to participate in the next phase.
Plenty of challenges to come.

Hi All, yes, next Tue - 31st Jan is falling into place as the date. 6pm arrival for a 6:30pm start. There will be light refreshments provided, something like sausages on the BBQ and some beers. Grunta's (Grant's) place 177B Marua Rd, Ellerslie.
Have a handful so far, would be good to see more people turn up. Even if you just want to listen and get a grip on the issues, I think it will be a good opportunity to understand more about Sea Change and how it could affect your fishing in future.
John H - maybe we can talk about Skyping you into the session for a virtual attendance.....
If people could post up their expression of interest? Thanks.

Will see what we can do, best option maybe just record and upload as the quality of the feed may not be so hot depending on signal etc, if it's a long session, that could also be a fair amount of data....

Thanks Scott. That would be great. If I get a chance (50/50 at the mo) I will try to grab a couple of snapper for the BBQ. See how we go.

A very rewarding and informative evening last night, thank you Grant for allow use of F.net Head Office, also the refreshments and BBQ..(Also apology's  for my jibe the other week over the mishap off your boat)

A Big Thank you to the Legasea team for making this happen...Scott and Scott,Peiter ,Trish .

nice to catch up with Tagit ,Smudge and PJC again

Yes we are caught between a rock and a hard place  it is apparent changes are needed to ensure fish for future generations for all .

Some off Seachanges proposals are not liked by many ,namely reserves in most prime fishing areas .

Just remember that to date noting is set in concrete ,things just wont happen unless its agreed to , there is  disagreement among those that were in this working group..

Our main concern is damage done by trawling and destruction of seabed, habitat ,killing of juvenile fish.
For this we need to keep focused and support Legasea  going forward with Seachange

We want those dam trawlers out of the Gulf ...stop the damage ,save the habitat, let the rebuild begin .

Im sure this issue with reserves can be worked with ,we wont be shut out of all our favorite areas, but we do have to stay focused and be hands on very much so in the future .

Working with Iwi we will have to do as the fishery belongs to us all ,not just a select few, that we all know , we have to manage it in sustainable way , removing the main  culprits that course 90% of the damage has to happen.

Lets make it happen !!!

Thanks Legasea,Grunta and f.net members for last night. The message was quite clear and needs to happen. As fisherman recreationally we need to bond as one even though we may different veiws.
Shortly there will be a simplified version of "seachange" with FAQS available

As MM has stated we will need to work with IWI.

Thanks again.

Had a great evening, thank you to all turned up - Mowerman & son, PJC, V8-Coupe, Tagit, (and Smudge, who was late, but not too late to drink a beer with us) Grunta of course and the 4 LegaSea staff.  I found it very constructive to talk face to face and discuss the concerns. Tagit had a good suggestion of having an executive summary produced on Sea Change - the pros and cons, risks and benefits etc as the full document is a not an easy read and most fishers won't read it or may get lost in the 'weasel speak' as some one commented. Scott M & Trish will start working on that, so more fishers can get a handle on it.
From my perspective, it looks like Sea Change has great potential to deliver much better results than what we have now, HOWEVER rec fishers need to stay focussed and engaged on how it gets implemented so that it does't get derailed along the way. Rec fishers can help lead the changes and bring it together and steer it rather than sit back and be victims or watch it sink. At the moment, the chances of it succeeding are getting smaller, and along with it - our best chance of seeing destructive commercial fishing practices removed from the Gulf. Remember, if what happens in the Gulf works, there's a good chance it will be taken up in other parts of the country.

Here's a couple of examples of fish tourism (more specifically thresher sharks and stingrays)  providing great economic opportunities. Apparently a stingray is worth $500k during it's lifetime. While not strictly fishing tourism, it shows that a fishery managed with abundance as the goal has serious economic opportunities.
Thresher sharks:

Stingrays:   https://www.facebook.com/DrGuyHarvey/videos/10154125967265966/

There's been discussion at LegaSea around the concept that fishery management should be under the Minister of Tourism instead of the Ministry of Primary Industries to help get the right people behind it.
