The hooks on the Pro Hunter Prowler 40g inchikus appear to be shyte! Girlfriend had one snap on what appeared to be an average sized fish last weekend (this inchiku hadn't been used prior to this day) Thumbs Down. Will need to buy a replacement skirt and hooks for it now... Any recommendations?

no they are very light weight. i have used them with no dramas buti only use max 2kg drag on my softie outfit. the jitterbug skirts are the best in the biz. prob better to buy jitterbugs. better than bottomships in terms of quality but cheaper. or you can make your own assist hooks with 80lb kevlar braid, 1/0 owner livebait hooks and a good quality skirt. there is a thread for making them. the one under the buy and sell

Gofish & Yeehaa both had some good replacments in stock a while ago.Or you could buy some skirts & hooks & make up some super grunty custom ones.I made up a few using very small Owner livebait hooks which worked well.

Cheers Fenien and Muppet. Look to be more cost effective if I buy some of these from Greg, rather than make my ownThumbs Up

Used some jitter bugs on the weekend. Very impressed. Was chasing a small work up that had no birds or whales etc around it. Plus there was no sign on the sounder, but kept dropping straight by the work up and getting 40cm plus snapper each drop. Got a new pb snapper of 3.5kg (small I know but I am learning)

What is the best weight jigging rod for fishing these things ie 200g jigwrex or are soft bait rods the better option if you dont have the specialised gear?

where are you fishing? What depths? Current? I use  40g if slack current or very shallow, 60g for bit deeper say 20/25m and use 4-7kg softbait rod  for these 2 weights. If the current is a bit more or bit deeper I use 100g on my jm powerspell 100. Could go much heavier with this rod if needed too so all bases covered. My go to one would be 60g blue jitterbug on softbait rod

Pretty much all gulf fishing, Firth of Thames, around and behind Waiheke. 15 - 40 meters. Cant really say i've been having issues with current. Havnt used the jitter bugs yet. Just the inchukus.

jitterbugs are just a form of inchiku. Just have better assist/skirts. People have different opinions but I think inchiku work better vertical ie heavier weights work better. If its not staying near vertical I  go heavier. I generally use softbaits in shallow water or when not much weight needed. Inchiku when deeper or need more weight

Yes they need to be Vertical. Got 18 nice snaps out back of Tiri today 40 mtr mark. 130 gram but really needed 180. Good bites when jig straight under boat.

yeh vertical is best. Might have to get some heavier ones. Biggest inchiku is 100g. With the exception of a couple kingy jigs with squid skirts. What colour inchiku/skirt were you using kandrew?

Silver bottom ship with a pink octopus, tied on the sharp end. Used a very slow up jig about 6 to 19 inches then down with a half a turn . Keeper winding slowly when I felt the bites. Smaller hooks work better and I have tried jitter bugs as well but the hooks are larger than the bottom ship so I get a much better hookup rate with bottom ship. Also don't use geni clips as I find the hooks and braid on the hooks get tangled really easy, so just uniknott straight on. Good luck!

The bite was tough on friday but all the fish came on board via inchiku. squid, pilchard and trevally all turned up zip for my mate. i was using softies and inchiku. 20g pink fanky and 40g candy apple jitterbug were the top 2. normally dont go this light but the fish were in shallow and the current was slack. heavier inchiku got nothing
