A 2.8kg trev is a great fish and despite having a bit of a fascination with trevs for many years (I'm not just a gurnard nut, I like catching trevs even more) it took me 20 years to get one over 3kg.

I must admit that trevs are what do it for me, the strength and dirty tactics these fish have is what keeps me wanting more, its like having a snapper and kahawai all in one.

Just a tad shy of 75cm this Trev, let this one swim away. Took 3 photos with it and put it back, didn't want to hurt or kill such a beaut of a fish. Caught in the middle of the day after a pretty slow day of fishing. Have to thank my mates Mike and Sean for taking me to their spot and talking me through bringing it in safe and releasing it quick.

Between Tapotupotu and Pandora, up north. Can't say exactly as its not my spot. But a couple hours trek over rocks to get there.
