So a 14ft pontoon dinghy would be fishable often? Im fine fishing the west coast, just not sure the best and closest launch from welli city? Mana seems a long way to go to launch.

Got my boat back from being serviced. I think the red hot marine guys do a good job.

Saturday looks pretty good, especially out west. 1.5M swell on the south but light winds.

Might try for a puka. Been aaaaages

Hey Fiz, I use to fish a lot out of Makara from a 4m Hardy pontoon.  We went after everything from tics to groper and did a lot better than I do these days in a 659 stabi. We also went out to the trench quite a few times catching bluenose but I was always a wee bit nervous out there as it was a long way home if the northerly got up.

There are a lot of options in close in the Makara if you have a little boat and don't mind dragging it up the river.

I fish all over Wgtn. in a F14 Frewza, never feel out of my league as long as the wind does not blow up more than 25knots + then it just gets wet, but still fine and safe. Can launch it most places including beaches with a 4WD. A 4mm hull minimum is a must for local conditions IMO.

Thant's very true Ugg, a bigger boat does not usually equate to more fish, usually the opposite I think, I often do better inshore than my mates who head to the trench. Of course they get larger fish, but generally much fewer and a far more unreliable catch rate.

I've brought a new boat by the way, and it fit's in a day pack... thinking I might take it to the trench on a nice day?... Skip to 2.08 to see it...!

Is it possible to get a F14 out the Makara river mouth when not too low?

I've launched Makara at low tide in the F14 but had to drag a wee bit across the shingle - no drama though.
