buying usless exspensive fishing gear is my second favourite hobby.

While processing a stripey yesterday I found a rusting circle hook in its guts along with a number of jack macs......I suspect it had probably been cut free by a tuna longliner some weeks ago as it didnt have a tag in it
It was clearly still feeding successfuly and it took our lure and fought bloody hard so the hook didnt appear to be troubling it too much....may very well have completely rusted away and left the fish none the worse for wear eventually......
Good to know they can/do survive................r

We got a blue and a yellowfin out of Oakura last weekend. The blue had one small Skippy in it and the yellowfin had 6 squid of various sizes.

think if you look back even birds are fair game, more so Lt Blue Penguins, Black Marlin seam to target them when the going gets tough,
we had Red Snapper in the odd one off cavalli islands,
in Aussie they tend to use red snapper ( nanagi ) spelling,
small ones for live baiting Yellowfin but why not marlin

A Mahimahi caught off the coast of Mexico was found with a stomach full of baby billfish. The billfish appear to be Broadbill Swordfish, which Mahimahi are known to feed on. Off the east coast of Australia Post Laval Swordfish are regularly found in the stomachs of large Mahimahi.

These were regurgitated from a yellow fin tuna we got of gisborne. Anyone know what they are? We thought they might be nautilus. Looked more like an octopus than a squid.
