You can be sure he hasn't stolen it as a future fathers day gift.  Odds on he wouldn't have a bloody clue who to give it to.
I've got to the point that I even take the shackle off my safety chain.

Hey guys went up north to kerkeri for the far north itm fishing competition. it was really hard fishing but got some really good snappers and I took out the prize for average weight snapper, which came in at 3.45kg and won $1500 worth of shimano gear was bloody wrapped!!!
Biggest snap of the comp was 12kg off the rocks and kahawai went 5.4kg some big fish! But all fish were auctioned off for a good charity the monognui fire brigade, and they raised a lot of money!
Tight lines just thought I'd share my trip with you all! Hopefully get out this weekend to my spot x by Omokoroa of the tides right of course!

Yeah fissure sure was a big one! Is anyone taking their kids in the Omokoroa boat club fishing competition? I'm going to be taking my 9yr old boy out he doesn't really like fishing but he came to me last night and said could I take him in it, I jumped up and said yes boy I will take you! Finally he is into it, do any of you have any tricks to keep them entertained out on the boat if the fishing is slow? Cheers karl

Almost certainly that Kahawai was a Kermadec Kahawai. Haven't been many of them caught in recent years.

Meraboys well done on the fish for the comp.

That sounds like a good plan with the balloons might give it a go and might take the iPad out with us also thanks guys was hard fishing who's going out this weekend? If the weathers good might head out the harbour for a troll and see what we can pick up out there, there has been some good fish caught out the harbour lately that I've seen.

Hi all, getting mad keen on my fishing. Keen as to head out and catch a feed.

I'm a bit new to boating on my own. However have surfed and been in the water in treacherous sea conditions on my surfboard for 22 years.

So feel I have an understanding of water and how she behaves, wind directions and how quickly it can change and chop things up.

However I do lack experience being out on my inflatable in rough seas.

So my question to you all is:
I have a 3.6m Speeda Inflatable (SIB) and  a 15Hp Yamabasi outboard.

She performs well in a rolling sea which is calm. Extremely stable.

Get a bit of chop and she doesn't like it of course. The SIB wont plow through swells as expected..creates a wet ride. I can deal with this. I don't care if I get wet.

My question I want to know is.. DO you think its to far for me to go fish Karewa Island or Motiti? Launching from Pilot Bay or Sulfur point?

Or should I just do a few non fishing trips in different weather and see how she goes?

I'm new so go easy on me please. Saw a few boats out over the weekend, thought the reports would be humming along

Mate, you're in a small boat in a big bit of water that can go from calm to crap real quick. I'm not familiar with the type of inflatable you've got, some will go anywhere but I'd be happier with a bit more HP than 15.  Give it a month or so and you'll get some good fishing just out of the entrance along Matakana.  My advice would be wherever you are going to go pick your weather, have a waterproof epirb and a waterproof VHF.
Good luck.

We used to fish out of a similar size inflatable with a 25hp on it. I would suggest lauching at harrisons cut on a calm day and drifting through various depths to find the fish.Motiti would be a push with a 15hp. We had some great fishing down there.

Yep, good advice there.
Launching off the beach on a good day with a good forecast would be wise & the fishing along by Harrisons is usually pretty good.

Hey, nice to have you on here Coutta, I used to enjoy your musings in NZFN.

& welcome to you too CTA, I hope you enjoy your time on here.

I agree with coutta and recommendations on size and horsepower.
Think long about being able to return quickly should wind/weather change fast, as it can.
Consider the boats capabilities and gather experience! ....cheers and safe fishing.

Hi CTA, try giving the harbour a go. Plenty of good fishing to be had in there. If your determined to try outside, there's little need to travel far. I've had lots of really good success within 10-15 minutes of Pilot Bay Ramp.

Cheers all.

Thought I would get a few replies as such as the ones above.

My post might sound a bit casual but  I have been out in IRB's in some poor conditions

I'm keen to do the harbour evening  / night fish.. Just getting kit as I can afford it. Basically what I need is a few battery operated nav lights. Haven't done my research yet on port and starboard battery operated lights. Plus attachment to pontoons.

Have launched at harrisons cut a few times, mostly fished about halfway to motiti. 21-31m deep ish max if I remember correctly.

Need to work out a way to get the boat up the beach so I can hook it back onto the trailer. Maybe towing up with a rope? Think low tide gives 160m of sand to get the boat up to the ramp. The other thing I was thinking was setting up a rope and pulley system to bring the beach trolley and boat up the beach.

Maybe a bit more thought required.

Thanks all.
