There is some fantastic fishing to be had off the Canterbury coast if you know where to go, 30 to 60km out, most people and fishermen just dont realise what is out there !!!
Hard to get the right weather conditions to fall on the days that you can go though !!!
Off shore fishing in canterbury is some of the best the country has to offer if you got the right spots and a decent boat with a GOOD sounder !!!
If you have a look on google earth about 50 odd kms out off the Akaroa Heads there is a trench out there, about 150 metres deep.
We gona head out there sometime over the next few weeks for a test fish and I cant bloody wait cause it looks like an interesting spot to drop some bait down, not sure what will be there ???
Groper ? Tarikihi ? Bluenose ?
Has anyone been out there for a fish or know of anyone thats been there ?
recreational or commercial ???

Never seen or caught any tuna while out on our trips, our trips being out off Banks Pininsula and out off east coast from lyttleton up to Motunau and up to 70kms out.
