Lake Rotorua's surface water temperature rose 0.13 degrees C between 5am and 11pm this morning to 21.9 degrees C.  Algae levels have dropped from 3.8 to 1.3, though bear in mind that the down-wind end of the lakes may have heavy concentrations of algae.  Barometric pressure has dropped a further 1 point to 1013.7hPa and humidity has dropped 4%.  The wind has shifted more to the West and has dropped to 6.9kph.  There has been some rain this morning and around 5.4mm fell over night.  Sunrise tomorrow is at 7.08am and sunset this evening is 7.47pm.  We are expecting a high of 43 degrees C and possible thunderstorms for this afternoon. As at 1.o pm the air temperature is 21 degrees C.  The UV Index is high at 10+ and the forcast for tomorrow is fine weather.

Lake Rotoiti's surface water temperature has dropped 3 degrees C to 21.4 degrees C.  The thermocline is between 14 and 18 metres.

For those fishing Hamurana or the Awahou, try an unweighted nymph fished extremely slowly in the surface film, expecially in the cold water plume rather than a wet fly or weighted nymph.  That seems to be working particularly well.

The Whirinaki is low and clear at the moment as very little rain has fallen in the  catchment.  Cicada imitations fished well yesterday as some anglers reported up to 20 fish being landed in a six hour period around the Minginui area.

Fishing permits are available for the Kaiangaroa Forest again, though camping is not permitted at this time.

There has been a health warning issued for Okawa Bay, Okere Arm  and Te Weta Bay, extending into the lake almost to the pylons due to the algae bloom.
