The fishing was good heaps of fish everywhere . I stayed in close - 11.5M was the deepest I went .. ended up almost down at the next beach access.

Yep thats a trev around 35cm - you got a nice one Piwi ! - just chilling the trev down now about to have it raw with wasabi and soy.

Ended up with 6 snaps and the trev - lost a Kahawai .

Anyone going out in the morning or is it gonna be s#@t ?

You guys have done mint off the coast!

Certainly better than my Sat night efforts in the harbour, managed 1 keeper. A fair few smaller ones. Strange bite, they were just sucking on it, half the time I hooked em when I went to check bait etc. Very slow fishing over all really.

Long range looks good for next weekend off the coast. Will try to join you.

I aint softbaited for years, what size jigheads are you running? I think I have a tub of gulp which would be a good 2 years old.

Good effort Noponies. Use a 1/2 oz 1/0 in nitro brand or 3/0 1/2 oz in jigstar brand. They are about the same size. Gulp softies will be perfect and should be ok if they have been kept in the juice for the 2 years.

Shot guys some sweet bags. Hoping to get out wed and thurs if the forecast stays good. Toppped up on softys at the warehouse with 40% off makes packs around the 7-8 buck mark. Also got jigheads at rebel the other day, i'm using the newer mustad jigheads more and more now the hook points hold up alot better then the stealths. using 3/0 and 5/0 which are the equivlent of nitro 1/0 and 3/0.

DT those Mustads are good. I like the sharp thin black gauge they use on them.

I only fished Whanga once when we did a BOPyakmen trip up there one year. I cant remember what time of year but fishing was slow. We fished out from the Island that you can paddle into the middle of. I drifted between that Island and the smaller Island to the right and picked up a snap, dory and ky.

( edit it was march 2008 and I got 3 snaps to 52cm and a dory )

Hi gents. Although I hardly ever use the yak these days I love to keep up to date with what is going on with the bop yakmen!
FYI. I wasn't on my yak but I was at Whangamata last Saturday. I picked up a Kahawai (plenty more following it and a lot of baitfish on the sounder) and a couple of Macs, within a km of the harbour entrance on my return, in the afternoon, from out further. There were a few Turns semi working from near the entrance, to as far as the nearest island to the entrance (Hauturu Is). Once I had a couple of livies I stopped actively fishing for the Kahawai, trying for Kingies or anything else that would take a livie - no luck. Good luck and if you are launching from the harbour ramp (unlikely due to how far away from the entrance it is) just remember you need to pay for a ticket to park in that vicinity, which I found out afterwards!
