I haven’t been out since very early in June, but looking out
the window today and reading about some decent catches lately, I’m getting very
itchy.
Think I’m going to take tomorrow off work and head out. Got
to make the most of the light winds and low swell at the moment.
I’m keen to hook up
if you’re still heading out Thursday. Let me know?
The fishing wan’t frenetic, but when there was action is was all on. I took home 4 snaps and John Dory, but released my biggest of the day to fight again. I don’t know how big he was but he was easily a PB. The 4 I kept went from 35cm to 50cm. Plane to Sea also did well with 4 very good sized snapper, his biggest was a horse as well. No doubt he’s put the measuring tape on it at home so I’m keen to know how big it was??
Nothing was straight forward today. I had double hook ups which tangled my lines and another snapper managed to tangle the line around my drogue. When I eventually got him and the whole mess yak side, he dropped the hook and headed straight back down. Unfortunately for him, he swam straight into my open drogue and I managed to use it like a net to scoop him up. Gold!
There was a sold breeze for the first 3 hours or so, at least 8-9 knots, which was not forecast, so we did a lot of paddling and drifting, paddling and drifting, and having not been in the yak for about 3 months my body is feeling it now. The wind completely died around 9:30 and it was perfect conditions.
All in all a very productive morning and the fact it was a mid-weeker makes it all the more special. Thanks to Plane to Sea for being the official photographer for the day!
