I had a bit of a fossick through my gear today after it was suggested that I might have had a bit too much that rarely gets an outing. I discovered to my 'horror' that I have been a very naughty boy over the last few years. So with bended knee at the font of public opprobrium I offer this, my confession, to the assembled throng.
I found:
Freshwater:

Kilwell Innovation 4 piece 5wt flyrod with
Scientific Anglers 678 Reel w floating line

Sage XP896 2 piece 8wt 9'6" flyrod with
Kilwell Genesis wide arbour floating WF line

Kilwell Legend II 2 Piece 8/9 wt 9' flyrod with
Scientific Anglers2 78L reels with floating, slow sink, shooting head spools

Tica Proweave 826P 8' 2 piece Salmon Rod with
Taurus TP4000SH 14 Ballbearing spin reel

Shakespeare 2.2 mtr Harling Rod with
Alvey Reel and Lead cored line

Shimano Backbone 4 pc BB64 L-B spin 2-4kg with
Shimano Alivio 2000 3kg spin reel

Saltwater:

Daiwa Procaster S 6'6" 4-14lb Spin rod with
Shakespeare 8 BB K2 Xtreme 4000 XFD spin with 15lb fireline

Composite developments Pro Albagraph4 4-6kg with
Daiwa SL20SH Overhead with 12lb braid

Daiwa Saltwater VIP 5'6" 40 - 130 lb Rollered with
Shimano TLD 25

Shakespeare Ugly Stik Tiger 7' 20 -50 lb with
Shimano TLD 15

Shimano Backbone 6'6" with
Tica Caiman CT 200

Penn Powerstik 4.2 mtr 3 pc 1403SF Surfcaster with
Shimano 6300 Baitrunner

Plus a battered Ryobi 3.66mtr Maxigraph Surfcaster
And a nasty pink Shakepspeare spinset for my daughter.

Its not too much is it?
I'd still like a Saltiga for the Backbone as the Caiman's far too small for it.
What do you think?

Cheers, Vig

I took 4 Ugly Stick rods & 2 reels (TSM4, Charter Special) to the second hand shop a couple of weeks ago as I couldn't see me ever using them again.
Now that I'm totally  (well, almost) committed to soft bait fishing, I couldn't see much point in keeping that stuff.
So Vig, my collection is much more modest & I don't have the worry that Aunty might do a head countLOL

Just relax Vig suffice to say you have quite a way to go till you hit the extreme corner of the TAS curve graph.
Needed a present for the wifes birthday tomorrow so brought her a loverly Massey ferg tractor to launch OUR boat when I go fishing. I shall await the squeals of delight tomorrow with some considerable interest with a view to protecting my private parts from a well aimed kickingEmbarrassed

I am neither prepared to confirm nor deny the presence of a tackle collection exceeding that listed here... while I appreciate inquiring minds would like to know inquiring wives also may wish to know and there is no reason to make complicated a very simple of game of hide and do not seek...

Must admit Uncle... couldn't resist giving the boys new SP outfit a bit of a trial run before he gets his greedy little paws on it... mind you, at just past 14 it seems he is more intent on getting his greedy little paws on girls than a fishing rod right now... I guess he'll grow out of that by about 90.....

Oh and the verdict... the rod works... the angler doesn't....

My collection is also a bit much, I do not see getting much use, if any. Mainly just brought them cheaply on special or as part of a combo deal. Think I would sell one of my fly rods and purchase a nice new spinner outfit with it, or maybe another spear gun.

The stupid thing with my tackle collection is that the most expensive items get no or little use. I have around $1000 worth of fly fishing equipment which is rarely used, while my $100 threadline setup gets used several times a week.

Also brought a Shimano 6500B which was several hundred dollars and it has never been used. I brought it used for shark fishing but it is not a priority, also lack a suitable rod. Meanwhile I been using a $30 crappy Chinese junk reel for my fishing, that thing had more ball bearings then grams of drag. Should transport the line from the Chinese reel to the 6500B so it would see same use.

Aaawww Bulder you old softie you. Really know how to treat a girl eh?

I shall follow the results with great interest. (When the Doctor tells you that you are no longer allowed to go fishing, what with broken nuts and all, can I have first dibs on your fishing gear collection please?)
Nobody has ever come up with a great idea after a second bottle of water.

Just checked my records, got it from Nelson hunting and fishing. Was $300 for the reel and a Raider rod. Getting the reel for $199 sounds like a good deal.

A Massey Ferguson no less Boulder! I hope it's not one of the ones I assembled many years ago. Out of a job I told the foreman at CB Norwoods in Christchurch that I had a mechanics ticket, and bullshytted my way through the job for a month or two. I specialised in the clutch and bellhousing assembly until they figured I was good enough to do the International Harvesters! Mostly I just taught myself how to wheelstand a tractor in the parking lot - huge fun. I was very young (20ish) Later I assembled International Trucks for a while too, building the subframe and chassis in great big electric vices. Alas my career eventually came to a halt with a firm but irrevocable dismissal for lying about my credentials.
I became an actor sometime after that...hehehe.

the danger of doing a serious rationalisation - read cull - for your fishing kit, is that you find yourself with no excuses the next time you enter a tackle shop - you have the cash, and you have the room for a big stock up again - in big circles do you go aroundConfused
No disintegrations!

And I only had to promise to buy a triffling gold and diamond braclet to earn back my brownies. A mere 3 and a half times what I paid for the tractor but who is quibling as we both got what we wanted and my matrimolial tackle is intactBig%20smile.

Massey Ferguson are nice tractors. At last count we owned around 30 of them (thats including Ferguson). The new ones with the cabins and semi-automatic gearboxes are so much nicer then the old ones.

Interesting, very interesting, what you find when forced to look! I had a wee bit of a nudge from "her indoors" about cleaning out the basement the other day. Managed to get down there first, with the excuse that "I had to clean up my fly tying stuff so that everything was out of the way", so to speak. So, next thing I know, the cooker, we took out of the flat next door, (only been down there for eight years or so), the dishwasher we removed about six months ago, and the cook top and wall oven I just pulled out last week, are all on "TM"! Good job I got there first, cos I tend to not tell her about any fishing gear I might be buying/ have bought. Found heaps! including about three or four bags of "SP'S" that I had forgotten about, umpteen bags of hooks and swivels, braid, not to mention a whole heap of other s#@t, don't know if its "TAS" or "altzheimers", or a combination of both, but it was well worth the look, cos i'm feeling GOOOOOD now!!!, and I didn't have to get rid of any "real gear" or spend any money. Does this count towards "what I bought today?" Am I sick or just normal? who cares!
