Ok, so accuse me of click BAIT.  So the title is missing a little "/" symbol.  Hug so sue me.   Seemed appropriate given the audience.
But check this out:    48.50 PER kg!!!    I must admit I havent been into a fish shop for a while but this is just bloody Scandalous!

I sure hope it smells good when you cut that bag!

Click bait worked on me.

I have hooked snapper in the high 30s before but sadly they always swim the hook before I get a chance to see them.

crunch a few rough numbers..limit 7. 2 on th boat,  ppl get the limit, lets say ave 1.2kg per fish...(35/40cms)
(our ave weight has been higher than that  and we dont bring in limits, just what we need.)
Total we fish say 17kg
If fillet effectively, the fillet will be just over 1/3 of the fish.
 Thats about 5.5kg of fillets
X $45

 About $250
 Divide by 2 guys...
$125 each.

You either need to go fishing or pop down for a visit Bill. I have a fridge full of tasty fillets. Lots of the little buggers out there at the moment.

To everything is a reason. Shortage of snapper, expanded export markets, or blatant extortion .?

I hate being smug but even based on normal prices I normally make money on the fish I put in the fridge.

Yep we do also.. and the example above is more  hard winter fishing...
3 guys, if I cruise 38/39 mph lot more fuel.. round trip 30/40 miles bait fuel works out around $45 each..
Drop cruise to 33 mph and far less than that.
Some given away, some smoked  and frozen, rest used fresh.

Just go fishing Big smile, some on here don't seem to have factored in the cost of their gear, boat etc, probably (is) cheaper to go down to Countdown/Pak n Slave, but not as much fun.

Cheers

Damn right feeder. So good for the mind and soul. With the suicide problem we have in NZ, I wonder how many of them were fishermen...(no offence meant regarding suicide).

Being outdoors is good for the mind it is cited in many cases that people need to just take a break from work and general life stress. Fishing is as good as it gets.
