Quick update on the 1st real shake down trip of the season after getting back up to the Bay Of islands. SST's were showing a good patch of water up the back of Main Rock so headed that way for the afternoon on Friday. Blue water was out at 400+ and we prospected out to 600m. F-All bait around and picked up 1 skippie . Hooked up late that avo in 550 behind Nine Pin Trench . Pulled about 300m off and then we dropped it. Water certainly starting to come on out that way with nice up wellings and current lines but not a lot of bait which was a surprise.

Day 2 had us off Cape Brett and a bit further south . Spent the morning in 400-500 where all the action was with multiple Striped Marlin, Bevans 311kg Blue and a number of Spearfish had been taken. Nice pockets of bait here and there but we felt no better than further north so with the thought of some prospecting for new Sword Spots we trundled north away from the pack and headed up wide to 600m and around the back of the nine pin , had a couple of drops for zip and back into the Cavaliis for the night. Plenty of Bait off the Cavs at the moment in the 160m through 200m. Nice solid bunches with Dolphins working and gannets. No action for us on Day 2.

Seems to be slowly happening up there with good patches of fish showing as we have seen off Cape Brett. Surprised there wernt more boats out off the Cavaliis which was looking ripe for Stripies . Sounds like that area a little further north off berghans etc is where its at for the next few days.

Charters on Eldonna kicking off on the 2nd so good luck to everyone fishing over the next few days and congrats to everyone who has seen some action and landed fish so day !!

Been a few tough days at the office.
As not all missions are as successful as we would like.
Still I'll give you my updates from the boi over last two days.
Starting with....

As you can see I'm roughing it.
Anchorages brilliant and connected to the net.

Spent the last two days with the company of supermodel looking for opportunities.
Worked queens bouy, then the nine pin trench on consecutive days.
Limited life above and below.
Areas of skippies were infrequent and small in size, not quite coke bottles small.
A few dolphins working hard.
Lots of small bait for skippies and some birds until the Dolphins dragged them up out of the upwellings which where strewn with grass, so the saying " mow that area" literally was true.
They were strong currents.
But cleaning the gear solo repeatedly becomes a, I'll leave that alone place.
Temps were good and there were consistent temp breaks of up to 1.5 degrees.
Promising one would of thought.
Sea conditions were ok with a Se swell dominating and variable winds.
Many current lines were very noticeable within the choppy sea state.
Overall a good day's boating if that's your thing,
Well it's kinda I suppose when you get to stay in magic harbours watching kings smash bait just outside of your casting zone, now there's a reason for a centre console for sure.

Not sure I have much more to offer except congrats to those in other areas that produced results.

Work looks dismal to return to when conditions are this nice even without a tuna in the chiller.
Just cruising in my now sweetas pimped out Southern 755 HT0!

Was out over the weekend too
Water was great, patches of bait but very quiet over all.
We missed a Blue on Sunday and tagged an est 18kg spearfish but that was our lot.

Good work Adam. Nice to get a Spearfish to add to the species mix. Easy to miss Blues unfortunately. Great to see them though. Lets hope the decent fishing starts in Feb as usual and all this extra warm water doesn't mess things up too much.

Eldorado comp started today out of Russell, about 25 boats & around 14 billfish caught / tagged today including several blues.
Starting to happen, I do wonder how long it might be before we see a sailfish caught with these nice temps??
