Another monster bass today...this time for Houhora club member Bevan Cates. The huge bass weighed in at 70.8 kg (156.08 lbs) and is the heaviest to date this season for a club member. Congratulations Bevan and the team.

done a couple of big days, there is some bait around, few gannets dolphins from the cape to cape but very few skippies 1 caught in 14 hours yesterday.  Blue nose were fairly quiet in afternoon for us, lots of spiny dogs.  still early but!

Another long day at the office.

Bit rougher yesterday out at the garden patch, nice 10knots SW until the afternoon and it really cut up.
Some nice water blue but not purple and 22 was the warmest temp for the day.
One fish large enough to be a marlin or a large Tuna had a go when I was first setting lures but didnt get enough of a view to get 100 per ID.

Zero bait
Zero skippies

one boat looked to be hooked up and was doing tight circles all over the outer sea mounts

that is all.

Great day out the other day.  Prospecting swords.  Was the 5min to go call and our tap tap tap bite came.  After some gentle teasing the fish we were on.  Long powerful runs and one very angry Makaira ensued.  2.5 hours later and we I.D the fish as a prehistoric size thresher - problem was it was caught in the pec fin so another 30 mins to move it the last 10m before breaking off.

Yes we were gutted it wasn't the sword we were after but it was a super hard and fun battle on new gear, lines and techniques.

On the gear we were using a new Makaira 50 Open frame spooled with new Daiwa 100lb hollow on a "a bit light" 24kg livefibre bent butt.  All I can say is wow.

Hey guys, just got back a few days ago from a trip to the famed Wanganellas, was not dissapointed, we fished 3.5 days, caught 61 striped marlin , including 1 nice fish on stick bait, one I killed one which measured out at 153kg, average size 130kg to 150kg, many over 170kg, 2 small ones around 50kg, we broke many hooks, light guage, Mustad 7691S, VMC Stainless, Light guage BKK , 400lb leaders, But not one Bonze Grander Stainless Hook failed, boy did we catch some green fish, best for me was big one in  2min 40seconds, hands battered and bruised, but boy it was worth every minute of pain. If you guys ever get a chance to go there just DO IT.
cheers swordfishsteve

Headed wide on Sat. Rough as guts. One bite but we think maybe a shark as our bridle floss was cut through. 2 lads from Auckland were hilarious. I wanna cry one of them says... double sinker blue nose drops got his lil arms burning before he succumbed to the bad weather
